This cheap method is rather slow and the complete decomposition of the stump can take many months. Here are the 2 main options available to you:

• Decomposition due to lack of light: you install a dark, perforated tarp over the stump. You will water it regularly to cause rotting;
• Rotting with natural products: you introduce hard cheese in holes previously made in the stump to invite worms and other parasites whose presence will make the rest of the tree die.
