The City of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu allows the felling of trees under the following conditions:
The tree is dead or damaged
The tree is affected by a disease or infected by an insect.
The tree is dangerous to the safety of people or damage to property
The tree makes it impossible to carry out work authorized by the City or the Provincial or Federal Governments or their agents
The City of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu is making available to citizens an explanatory brochure on tree cutting.
Tree planting
The City of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu requires the replacement of the felled tree within twelve months of its felling in accordance with the City’s guidelines.
Permit for tree cutting
To obtain a tree cutting permit, the owner must apply to the City of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu for a tree cutting permit. The certificate of authorization for the felling of a tree is free.
Any person who commits a violation of the tree cutting by-law is liable to a fine of not less than $500.
Tree Planting Grant
The City of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu does not offer subsidies for tree cutting or planting.
